Arkansas Basin Roundtable Statements Regarding Demand Management of Colorado River Water Supplies within the State of Colorado
The Arkansas Basin Roundtable is keenly interested in the risks the State of Colorado faces regarding the availability of Colorado River water supplies. We recognize these risks may be growing due to changing hydrology in the Colorado River Basin, and Colorado’s nearly century-old commitments under the Colorado River Compact and the Upper Colorado River Compact. As such, the current discussions regarding the potential development of a voluntary, proactive Demand Management program within Colorado is of great interest to the Arkansas Basin water community. As the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB) considers whether a Demand Management (DM) program in Colorado is achievable and worthwhile, the Arkansas Basin Roundtable provides these statements regarding the value of Colorado River water supplies in our basin and initial issues of interest and concern. Colorado Water Conservation Board - Demand Management Feasibility Investigation
The Colorado Water Conservation Board(CWCB) is moving forward with its Demand Management Feasibility Investigation, which is now in its second year and second phase, focusing on analyzing potential implementation options using a draft Framework. The CWCB is committed to ensuring an open and collaborative process and is seeking stakeholder and public input through workshops and an engagement website . This page is continuously updated with the latest information.

Who is the Ark Basin Roundtable? |
What does the Roundtable do? |
The Arkansas Basin Roundtable consists of representatives from every county in the Arkansas River basin. Members include municipal, agricultural, environmental, recreational, industrial interests as well as holders of adjudicated water rights.
Why is the Roundtable important? The Roundtable serves as a forum for discussion of regional and local water issues and provides proponents of water projects the opportunity to gain support, secure funding, and partner with other stakeholders to implement projects that are aligned with the Roundtable's goals.
|
While meeting the water resource needs of all water users within the Arkansas basin, projects supported by the Roundtable also support accomplishing the goals of the Arkansas Basin Implementation Plan (Ark BIP) and the Colorado Water Plan (CWP).
What can you do?You are invited to attend Roundtable meetings to gather information, make connections, and to learn what is going on around the basin. Please contact your representative, or a specific member of the Roundtable should you have any questions.
